IPPC timber racks – a safe and certified solution for specialised transport
When a palette is not enough
Standard pallets or transport boxes work well for most applications, but some loads require individual and more open structures. In such cases, IPPC’s wooden racks are the perfect solution – transport packaging that enables the stable and safe transport of items with non-standard shapes, large dimensions or special sensitivity.
Their greatest advantage is that the design is tailored to the specific type of cargo. The racks are designed to immobilise the goods, facilitate their handling and ensure full compliance with international phytosanitary standards.
What are IPPC wood racks and how are they made?
Timber racks are structures made of beams, planks and brackets that stabilise the goods during transport. Unlike crates, they do not surround the cargo on all sides, but form a load-bearing framework that protects the cargo from shifting, tipping or damage.
Each rack is made from wood dried in kilns under conditions that exceed ISPM-15 standards, which earns it the IPPC designation, which is required for international trade in goods. This is a guarantee that the wood has been phytosanitary treated and poses no threat to ecosystems in the target countries.
IPPC wood rack applications
Wooden racks are mainly used in the transport of loads requiring special protection. They are most often used for transporting:
- cable, wire and rope reels,
- steel tubes and profiles,
- irregularly shaped structural elements,
- machinery and equipment in parts,
- windows,
- exhibits and exhibition structures.
Their design facilitates the handling of bulky loads, while allowing for optimal use of space in containers and warehouses.
Transport of large and non-standard loads
IPPC wooden racks are indispensable when transporting heavy and unusual loads. Thanks to their individual design, they can be adapted to a specific machine, module or construction element.
Examples of applications:
- transportation of engines and turbines,
- Transport of large-diameter cable reels,
- stabilisation of steel structures and prefabricated elements,
- securing process line components.
It is a solution that is particularly appreciated in industries where safety and precision are of paramount importance – for example, in energy, engineering or industrial logistics.
Industries using IPPC wooden racks
IPPC racks are used in many sectors of the economy. They are most commonly used in:
- power industry – transport of transformers, generators, turbines,
- cable and telecommunications industry – transporting spools of wire and cable,
- construction and metallurgy – transport of pipes, profiles and structures, windows,
- engineering industry – large components and process modules,
- trade fair and event logistics – stand components, displays and stage structures.
Costs – a tailor-made investment
The price of a wooden stand depends on its dimensions, the type of wood and the complexity of the construction. Compared to crates, racks tend to be less expensive – requiring less material, yet providing just as much mechanical protection.
For many companies, they are a cost-effective compromise – allowing unusual goods to be transported safely, without the need to build a full transport box.

Ecology and recycling of wooden stands
Like other wooden packaging, IPPC racks can be reused and recycled many times. At the end of its life, the wood can be reused – for example as a secondary raw material or as fuel.
Their construction uses less timber than full boxes, making them a more environmentally friendly and sustainable solution.
