Our Projects
Export packaging of a worm for sea transport
We carried out the specialist export packaging of an industrial worm in Kwidzyn, destined for sea transport. The project required the design and manufacture of a dedicated IPPC transport crate and the use of a multi-level protection system, including VCI anti-corrosion film and aluminium foil vacuum packing. The comprehensive approach to securing the cargo ensured full protection from moisture, corrosion and mechanical damage for up to 12 months of transport and storage.
Scope of service provided:
Description of the implementation of the order:
Design and manufacture of a dedicated IPPC transport box
Based on the dimensions and specifics of the industrial auger, a transport crate measuring 2250x650x1100 mm was designed and manufactured. The crate was made of plywood and dry coniferous wood certified by IPPC in accordance with the ISPM15 convention, which ensures compliance with international phytosanitary regulations required for maritime transport. The design of the crate ensured adequate mechanical strength and optimal protection for the transported snail.
Corrosion and moisture protection
All sharp edges of the auger have been protected with a bubble wrap, which protects both the cargo itself and the packaging from mechanical damage. The auger has been thoroughly protected with ZERUST/EXCOR’s VCI anti-corrosion film, which creates an active chemical barrier to protect metal components from oxidation thanks to volatile corrosion inhibitors. This solution is particularly important for shipping, where atmospheric conditions can significantly accelerate corrosion processes. In addition, moisture absorbers are arranged inside the packaging to minimise the risk of condensation during temperature changes.
Vacuum packing in aluminium foil
The next step was vacuum packaging using aluminium barrier foil, which ensured a complete seal and insulation from external conditions. This technique involves removing the air from the space around the auger and sealing it in aluminium foil with high barrier properties. This ensures that the unit is completely isolated from the effects of moisture, oxygen and other atmospheric agents, providing effective protection against corrosion for up to 12 months.
Mechanical protection and load restraint
Inside the box, a fastening system is used to effectively immobilise the auger and prevent it from moving during transport. Wooden locking elements and lashing straps were used to ensure that the load is stabilised in all conditions.
