Export packaging of a military vehicle for sea transport
In the port of Gdansk, Danpol carried out specialised export packaging of a military vehicle to be shipped by sea. Due to the sensitive nature of the equipment and the nature of long-distance transport, it was necessary to use a number of protective techniques, such as ALU barrier film, vacuum packing, moisture absorbers and a custom-designed wooden IPPC transport crate.

Preparation of the military vehicle for packaging
At the start of the order, the military vehicle was thoroughly cleaned and prepared for the packaging process. Danpol’s specialists carried out a technical inspection to identify elements requiring special protection, such as electronic systems, optical components and corrosion-prone surfaces. The vehicle was then placed on a specially designed wooden platform, which provided a stable base during transport and facilitated subsequent manoeuvring of the load.
Multi-layer corrosion protection
The next step was to apply a multi-layer corrosion protection system. Vulnerable parts of the vehicle were wrapped in bubble film to provide protection against mechanical damage. The entire vehicle was then protected with VCI corrosion protection film with ZERUST/EXCOR brand volatile corrosion inhibitors, which creates an active chemical barrier to protect the metal from oxidation. Moisture absorbers were placed inside the packaging to further protect against condensation during temperature changes.
Vacuum packaging in ALU barrier film
After securing the vehicle with VCI film, vacuum packaging was carried out using specialised ALU barrier film. This technique involves completely removing the air from the space around the vehicle and sealing it in aluminium foil with high barrier properties. This completely isolated the vehicle from the effects of moisture, oxygen and other atmospheric agents, which is particularly important during long-term sea transport.
Design and construction of a dedicated transport box
Danpol specialists designed and manufactured a dedicated transport crate, adapted to the dimensions and weight of a military vehicle. The crate was made from certified coniferous wood and plywood with an IPPC phytosanitary certificate in accordance with the ISPM15 convention, which is required for international transport. The design of the crate ensured adequate ventilation, while maintaining the mechanical strength necessary to safely transport a heavy vehicle.
Load restraint and anti-slip protection
The vehicle has been solidly restrained inside the transport box using high-quality Cordlash transport straps. A cross lashing system was used to prevent the load from moving in all directions during transport. In addition, wooden blocking elements and anti-slip mats were used to increase the stability of the entire structure.
Finalisation of packaging and preparation for dispatch
The final stage of implementation was to protect the lid of the transport box with a protective tarpaulin and to apply appropriate transport markings in accordance with international standards. The markings included information on dimensions, weight and special instructions for handling the load. Once the packing was completed, a detailed quality control check was carried out to ensure that all the securing had been done correctly and that the cargo was ready for safe sea transport.
